SMS pricing FAQ

How much does SMS marketing cost with Maestra?

Messaging is pay-as-you-go on top of your Maestra subscription, metered in Messaging Credits at flat all-inclusive rates: carrier and operator fees are already included, and nothing is added at billing. There are no packages or tiers, and rates do not change with volume.

The cost has two parts: per-message rates for what you send and a monthly fee for your sending number, plus small one-time setup fees where they apply. The calculator above itemizes all of it for your volumes; the contractual terms are in Exhibit B of our service agreement.

What are the per-message rates?

Rates are set in Messaging Credits; one credit costs $0.01. Every rate is all-inclusive of carrier and operator fees.

US and Puerto Rico

  • SMS: 1 credit ($0.01) per message, on any number type
  • MMS: 2.26 credits ($0.0226) per message

RCS (US sending)

  • RCS text: 1.18 credits ($0.0118) per message
  • RCS rich media: 2.49 credits ($0.0249) per message
  • Agent fees: $225 one-time setup, $225 per month, and a $560 one-time campaign activation fee

Canada

  • SMS: 1.75 credits ($0.0175) per message
  • MMS: 6.57 credits ($0.0657) per message

Messages over the standard character limit split into segments, each billed at the same rate. Rates for other destinations vary by country, typically several multiples of US domestic rates, and are available on request.

What does a sending number cost?
  • Toll-free and 10DLC: $3 to set up, $3 per month, and $3 per campaign amendment
  • Dedicated short code: $225 one-time application fee, then a monthly program fee of $775 for a regular code or $1,400 for a vanity code, with $28 per amendment

Number and program fees are billed in US dollars rather than credits, through your regular Maestra invoice. SMS rates are the same on every number type.

Toll-free is the most common choice, 10DLC gives you a local US number, and a short code is the premium option for high-volume programs.

Are carrier fees included in these rates?

Yes. Every rate is all-inclusive: carrier and operator fees are already in it, nothing is added at billing, and carrier fees never appear as a separate line on your invoice.

This is worth checking when you compare providers - some quote a low base rate and then add carrier fees at billing, so the headline number is not what you pay. Convert any quote to an all-in per-message price before comparing.

How is messaging billed? Do I have to buy credits?

Messaging is metered in Messaging Credits, but there are no credit packs to buy and nothing expires: you are billed for the credits you actually consume, in USD, monthly in arrears, on the same invoice as your subscription fees. Credits give you one balance across SMS, MMS, and RCS in every country you send to.

Sending requires the SMS, MMS & RCS module ($250/mo), which you can add on the main pricing page.

A Messaging Credits Prepayment may be required to activate messaging; it works like a prepaid balance, and any unused amount is refunded or applied to your final invoice when the contract ends.
