SMS pricing FAQ

How much does SMS marketing cost with Maestra?

Maestra charges flat pay-as-you-go rates: $0.0045 per SMS and $0.0125 per MMS in the US, with RCS from $0.0058 per message. Messaging requires the SMS, MMS & RCS module ($250/mo), and a dedicated sending number starts at $3/mo. For example, 100,000 SMS a month is $450 in message fees plus the module and number fees. Carrier pass-through fees are billed separately. Full contractual terms are in MSA Exhibit B.

Are carrier fees included in these rates?

No. Carriers charge their own pass-through fees for delivering messages, and those vary by carrier and message type. Maestra rebills them at cost with a 5% administration surcharge. Based on current carrier fee schedules, they add roughly $0.0044 per US SMS, $0.0092 per US MMS, $0.0053-$0.0102 per RCS message, and $0.0076 per SMS or $0.0192 per MMS sent to Canada. Actual fees depend on your recipients’ carrier mix; the calculator above shows the estimate for your volumes.

Is the carrier fee a flat 5%?

The 5% is Maestra’s fixed surcharge on top of the carrier’s own fees. The underlying carrier fees themselves are variable: each carrier sets its own per-message and program fees, and they differ for SMS and MMS. So your total carrier cost is the carrier’s actual fees plus 5%.

What does a sending number cost?

Toll-free and 10DLC numbers cost $3 to set up and $3 per month, with $3 per campaign amendment. A dedicated short code has a $225 one-time application fee and a monthly program fee that already includes the CSCA lease: $775 for a regular code or $1,400 for a vanity code, with $28 per amendment. SMS rates are the same on every number type.

How much do MMS and RCS messages cost?

US MMS is $0.0125 per message. In Canada, SMS is $0.0088 and MMS is $0.044 per message. RCS is available for US sending at $0.0058 per basic message and $0.0137 per rich media message, plus a $225 agent setup fee, a $225 monthly agent fee, and a $560 one-time campaign activation fee.
